Gift GPS - Find the right one

Finding a gift GPS can be a difficult task with all the different models and the technical terms associated with buying a GPS.  Have you considered giving a gift card and letting your special someone pick the GPS.

This page covers Garmin automotive GPS which are the type of GPS most people are seeking.  The prices on this page are based on Amazon.com pricing which you will find is very competitive.  Also, Amazon does not charge for shipping your gift GPS.

I highly recommend that your GPS speak street names so you do not give a gift that forces the driver to take her/his eyes off the road to read the street name on the display.  You do not want to give a gift that causes an accident.

The GPS below are the suggested gift GPS.  You can see the current pricing on the Amazon display with the GPS picture.  Click the link below the picture to go to the GPS product page on Amazon for more information about the particular GPS.

The lowest priced gift GPS that speaks street names is the Garmin Nuvi 255.  This is the standard sized Garmin automotive GPS with a diagonal display of 3.5 inches.

This GPS has all the basic features to make a great gift.

The next step up is the Garmin Nuvi 255W.  It is the wide screen model of the Nuvi 255.  The display size is 4.3 inches diagonally versus 3.5 inches for the Nuvi 255.

It makes reading the display easier, but all other features are very similar to the Nuvi 255.

If you want to step up to a GPS with really great features for the money, the Garmin Nuvi 780 is the best gift buy.  It is a wide screen model with Bluetooth wireless which will allow hands free calling on a cell phone.  It has an FM transmitter that plays the GPS output through the car stereo.  Since the Nuvi 780 also has a built in MP3 player and an audio book player, this output is played through the car stereo which enhances the audio output.

The Nuvi 780 also includes an MSN direct receiver and a subscription to the MSN Direct service included in the purchase price.  Keep in mind that this service is only available in certain metropolitan areas.

Note that this is a discontinued model, but it built with  current GPS technology which makes it such a great buy.

The only other major feature that you might consider in a GPS is voice recognition.  This allows the user to speak commands and input to the GPS instead of having to enter information into the GPS using the touch screen input.  This increases the driver's safety since the driver does not have to take her/his eyes off the road.

The lower cost voice recognition unit is the Garmin Nuvi 855 and the high end voice recognition unit is the Garmin Nuvi 885T.  These units are identical except the Nuvi 885T has Bluetooth wireless for hands free calling using your cell phone, and it also includes an MSN Direct receiver with a subscription for three months of service.

If you are interested in giving these voice recognition units,  I recommend that you read more about the features of these GPS on Amazon by clicking the links on the following Amazon displays.

This information should help you select a gift GPS for that special person.  Good luck in your search for that special gift.

Give an Amazon gift card to your special person and let them pick their own GPS.  You can email the gift card or print it on your own printer for immediate delivery.

Gift Cards are great gifts to give.
