Your Nuvi Best Buy depends on what you expect from your GPS. Garmin's product line called the 2x5 series contains the Best buy. If the unit starts with "2" and ends with "5", it is one of the 2x5 series. The entry level Nuvi unit is the Nuvi 205. It is small (3.8"W x 2.8"H) and thin (0.8"thick), and light (5.2 ounces). However, before you buy a Nuvi 205, be aware that it does not speak street names. This is very important since without the spoken street name, you must take your eyes off the road to read the street name on the GPS display. DANGEROUS! If you are OK with not having the street names spoken, buy the Nuvi 205. The Nuvi 205W (wide screen) has a larger display. The screen on this unit is 3.81"W x 2.25 "H,4.3" diagonal versus the smaller Nuvi 205 screen at 2.8"W x 2.1"H,3.5" diagonal. This widescreen model does not speak street names but the display is easier to read. The best GPS buy  The Garmin Nuvi 255 is currently the lowest cost Garmin GPS on Amazon that speaks street names and is the Nuvi best buy. You might consider the Garmin Nuvi 255W or the Garmin Nuvi 760. These two units are ranked as the top two best selling GPS units on Amazon. They both speak street names. Garmin recently released a new line of automotive GPS units. The comparable units in this line to the Nuvi 255 are the Nuvi 1200 and the Nuvi 1250. These unit are slightly thinner and weigh 1.2 ounces less than the Nuvi 255. |
